Ron Tennant Srs’ Chessie System/GTW/Conrail

Description of Layout:

Walk out basement – through the yard and down a small hill to access for the convention. Modeling from Grand Rapids north to Traverse City and Manistee, west to Chicago or east to Detroit (270′ – Chessie). Muskegon to Saginaw (96′ – GTW) and Grand Rapids to Detroit (72′ – Conrail)

3+ level around the room “nolix” style layout.

The State of Michigan took over ownership of several struggling northern Michigan lines in the late 1970s. The area represented is generic West Michigan from Grand Rapids north in the spring of 1980. I use actual terminal locations, however the rail lines are located on the map where I need them to go (versus where they really went), as I do not want to be tied down into modeling specific locations. I am simply trying to model the “flavor” of West Michigan. My main focus is the C&O/Chessie System, and I have a GTW line represented. Conrail is the latest addition to the system.
