Description of Layout:
WHITE CREEK RAILROAD (WCRR) is an privately owned 1/8th scale outdoor railroad located on over 100 acres near Cedar Springs. The passenger cars (flat cars) are 16 in wide and 5 ft long. The passenger trains travel at approximately 4 -5 miles per hour (a fast walk). The tracks meander around a lake, across a river, thru various woodlands and an island. When multiple trains are running, because of the “scenery,” seldom do you see other trains except when passing each other on sidings when traveling in the opposite direction. The mainline track is approximately 3+ miles long. The RR has 285 switches, 4 tunnels, 1 bridge, 8 trestles, & 38 “towns.” The railroad has multiple passing sidings, is signaled allowing bidirectional running for 30 plus trains to be running simultaneously 24 hours a day. The WCRR engine barn are currently 15+ locomotives with cabooses. There are approximately 300+ assorted freight cars in the car barn.
Visitors will be given a ride over a majority of the mainline. A typical ride lasts approximately 45 – 50 minutes although rides over a portion of the railroad can be shorted to 30 minutes or less if necessary. Visitors should arrive at the RR approximately 20 minutes before the top of the hour to allow time to park and find their way to the passenger loading area. Passenger train(s) typically depart the station at the top of the hour and arrive back at approximately 35 – 55 minutes later, depending on which of 6 or 7 routes the train takes. If 3 trains depart at the top of the hour, typically they would each be taking a different route and would not necessarily be following each other although they would probably pass each other somewhere on the RR.
